Week of May 15-19

Monday: H is for Hat Day
We began learning about Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane.  We talked about how we need to do things that are pleasing to God and not things that are pleasing to ourselves.
Today's math stumped many of the children.  We had to borrow two different times.  We did a few on the board together to help them understands.  We will continue to work on this concept as it requires many steps.

In phonics we reviewed when we use the K ending, CK ending, KE ending and the C ending.  We came up with words for each of them.

In reading we read about African American Inventors.  We learned what a biography was as well.

In science we learned about our Solar System. We talked about the different planets and how unique each of them are.

We started illustrating CH.2 of our Stanley and Stacey books.
We ended with our LAST READING MENTORS.  The children got to bring in their favorite books to read.

Tuesday: I is for Ice Cream

We played panic this morning to practice words with the K sound at the end with the different endings.

In math we did more 3 digit subtraction when we regroup twice.  Since many students struggled we needed to work more on this concept to help them understand.

We watched The Magic School Bus in the afternoon about our solar system.

We worked on our articles and adjectives for grammar today,

We started rewriting Ch. 2 of our Stanley and Stacey Books.

Thursday: K is for Kickball
We read the story when Peter denied Jesus.  We talked about how we need to confess our sins but also share the love of Jesus.  Peter is a great example of how we can sometimes be scared when we do something wrong, but when we experience His love, we should share it with others!

We wrote our memory:

We subtracted money and worked on estimating 3 digits.
We went outside for a fun game of kickball!  Even numbers vs odd numbers.  The game was a tie!!

We did a practice test to prepare for our science test.  The children did a great job!

We switched with Mrs. O'Meara.  We did GoNoodle Call and Repeat songs for music and they learned about how weather effects our food in Weekly Reader.
