Week of April 24-28

Monday:
Our Stanley's and Stacey's came to school with us today!  It is very fun sharing our day with them!

We learned about the Lost Sheep in Religion.  We talked about how Jesus is our Shepherd and loves us very much. Even though He has millions of followers He still loves those who do not know Him and wants US to help teach about Jesus.

We started learning the Apostles Creed.  The children may say it all at once or in 3 parts.
In math we did place value of 3 digits.  We used our secret code cards and our math boards to practice place value, expanded form and proof drawings.

We reviewed some of the concepts that will be on our reading test such as base words. and compound words.  We played fun games online to help us!  Then we did a practice sheet for comprehension.

In phonics we learned the next special vowel sound OU and OW.  They each  make the sound of /ow/ like you stubbed your toe.  We did learn that sometimes OW says the long O sound as well.
We have our Social Studies test tomorrow so today we got to play Jeopardy!!!  They all did great!

We practiced our songs we will be singing at Poppelton in a few weeks.

We ended with mentors.  Today we got to do read to someone during our time!

We even got to play a few rounds of 4 corners too!

Tuesday:
We said the first part of the Apostle's Creed.  Some children even said the WHOLE THING!  Great job!

We practiced our OU/OW sounds in phonics.

We did more place value practice and we also worked on expanded notation as well as proof drawings.

We started taking our Reading Test today.  We take it over several days to ensure we are doing our best!

We met with the first graders to continue to practice for when we sing in May at the outdoor service.

We took our Social Studies Test today.  Great Job everyone!

We started writing our first chapter of our books about Stanley and Stacey.  We wrote about the morning we spent with them.  Tomorrow we will write about what we did in the afternoon with them.

We started watching Little House on the Prairie in preparation for our field trip back to 1877!

Wednesday: GROUNDBREAKING DAY!!

The children all got to dress like construction workers in honor of our groundbreaking for our new school and rec center.

In math we did comparing of numbers using greater than, less than and equal signs.

We had a special chapel for our groundbreaking and we went outside for a special ceremony.

We finished our reading test.

We ate lunch outdoors

We started our next Science Unit: Weather and Sky.  We learned about different types of weather that we see.  We made predictions about upcoming weather days!

We finished writing our Stanley and Stacey chapter of our day at school.

We ended by reading a story about the weather.

Thursday:
We read when Mary Anointed Jesus during religion.  We talked about ways we can help others today.  We talked about doing a service project too!  More information about this is coming out next week.

In math we wrote numbers over 100 by counting by 1's and 10's.  We also wrote numbers using number words.  The children did a great job with this.

We wrote our April poem during handwriting.

We learned about The Water Cycle in Science.  We also did a water cycle brain break on GoNoodle.

We practiced contractions in grammar.

We switched with Mrs. O'Meara for weekly reader and music this afternoon.  We sang songs about a loose tooth to learn forte which means get louder and piano which means get softer.  The children read about kites with Mrs. O'Meara.

Friday:
We said our memory for the day.

In math we added 1, 2, and 3 digit numbers.

We wrote to our parents today in our journals.

We didn't have gym today because Ms. S wasn't here so we voted on an extra long recess!!
