Week of Feb 13-17

Week of February 13-17

Monday:
In religion we learned about Daniel and His friends.  They were faced with a tough decision to follow the King or to follow God.  We talked about times we are tempted to follow others or to do something wrong instead of doing what God wants us to.

In math we compared money.  We had to decide if we had enough to purchase items.  Our worksheet showed how we had, and how much the item we wanted to buy was.  Then we had to circle yes or no if we could buy it.

Our phonics lesson this week is about the GH sound.  When GH is at the beginning of a word it say the G sound.  But if its at the end paired with igh, or ight, the GH is silent and the vowel is long.

We listened to our story, SUPER STORMS today.  The children learned about storms and how to stay safe.

Our first valentines activity was making words using the letters in valentine.

Then we did graphing of our candy hearts.

Next it was snack.  We had our bagels and watched Charlie Brown.

Then we did a science experiment.  First we wanted to see if candy hearts would sink or float.  They sunk!  Then we put the candy hearts into 3 different liquids.  Water, Vinegar and Pop.  The hearts in water and vinegar just got soft and lost their color but the pop got fizzy and the candy floated!

During lunch we played hide the heart.  We hid the heart in the classroom and then the classmates had to use hot or cold to help them find it!

After lunch we made a craft of heart valentines.  Then we passed out our valentines and carnations.

After recess we ate heart cake and drank juice!  What a great day!

We worked on predictions today for reading.  After during Daily 5, small groups came to work with me on a prediction game.

In social studies we learned more about goods and services.  We learned about things being scarce and how the supply and demand can effect the prices of things.

We did writing using our candy hearts.  Each child got a bag of conversation hearts.  Then the children had to write a story using those words!

While they worked on writing, the children painted a foot stencil onto our bridge that will be auctioned off a the auction next week.
