Week of March 20-24

Monday:
Today we learned how Jesus healed a sick boy.  This is another way we see the many miracles that Jesus performed to show He was God.
We also wrote our memory verse today:

In math we learned how to read a schedule and answer questions about it. 


Our story today for reading was Real World Reading: Columbus Explores New Lands

In phonics we learned about the murmur diphthong AR.  When we have an ar we mark the vowel a and arc the two together showing they make a different sound.

In science we did a practice test in small groups. 


We ended with reading mentors

Tuesday:
We learned out murmur diphthong OR in phonics.  When we have the 2 together we mark the vowel and arc the two together as it make a different sound.

In math we played TIME BINGO to practice telling time.



Then we looked at times to see if we are early or late to different things.  


We did a main idea and details web about our story from our readers.

Our letter for today was uppercase X.  Check out our all stars


We did another practice test to prepare us for our science test.

We learned possessive pronouns in grammar.
We also wrote IF I WERE A SUPERHERO
Wednesday:
Ms. Kaniuk's first graders led us in chapel this morning.  We got our "socks knocked off" to some crazy dance moves!  It was a fun chapel!

We prepared for our math test by quizzing our friends with our clocks and doing a telling time sheet.


We took our spelling words and proved them with the ar/or murmur diphthongs.  



We watched the Magic School Bus episode about how important it is to recycle!



We ended our day reading with the 6th graders!  It was fun to read in the lower level with the big kids!!



Thursday:

We took our math time test this morning.

We had a big pep rally to send our Varsity Boys Basketball Team to the National Tournament in Valpo!  


Our letter for today was the uppercase K.  Kudos to our all stars today!



We played Jeopardy today to get ready for our Science Test!  Great job everyone!


We read how Jesus Heals a Blind Man today in Religion.  The kids took turns being blindfolded and trying to walk around blind.  They had to do different things to see what it would be like to not have any eyesight. 

Then they students wrote their memory verse:


In music we did question and answer in music.

In weekly reader they read about  A Lucky Duck who got a new foot from a 3-D printer!


Friday:

We started with our Science test!  

After we took turns saying memory.

In math we went back to review addition and subtraction of 2 digit numbers.

We watched our Boys Basketball Team play in the National Tournament.  Unfortunately, they lost but good effort boys!

We made forts with our blankets!!




In Art the children finished their projects!

We all sat around the campfire and I read them a story!

We ended playing games with parents!!

Week of March 13-17

Monday:

Our Bible story for Religion was Jesus Feeds the Crowd.  We talked about how we can feed people not just by giving them food.  We can feed them with love, and kindness.  We can feed them by helping those less fortunate than us.

For math, we learned different ways to say half hours such as half past, 30 minutes after and 6:30.  We also learned about quarter hours.  

In reading we listened to a play: Pushing Up the Sky

We learned double consonants today in phonics.  When you have a 2 syllable word with double consonants you split the two consonants.  The first consonant will be silent in the word.  The exception is if there are double c's and the second c is followed by an e, i or y.

We learned about soil in science. 


We also wrote all about Jesus for writing.  


We ended with reading mentors.  Each group had a readers theater script that we will be working more on this week and perform to the class!!

Tuesday:

We took turns saying our memory verse Luke 18:38


In phonics we learned that when there is an LE at the end of the word, the e is silent and there is a schwa sound as the vowel.
We learned about elapsed time for math.  This was a hard concept we did many of the problems as a class.
Our letter for the day was lowercase k.  Check out our all stars
We learned about our resources for science.  We also learned the 3 r's
We learned when to use the pronoun I and Me in sentences.


Wednesday:
The fifth graders led our Pray and Praise Service today.  We had a special guest speaker: Sam Kell.  Sam is a student at Stony Creek High School.  He is a former student of Trinity Utica.  Sam has dealt with his deal of loss in his life.  Currently, he is living with brain cancer.  He shared his story and how to stay BOLD in your faith.  What a great example he was to the children.  

We learned about problems and solutions for reading today.
We watched Magic School Bus for science to learn about how water can change rocks.
We shared our readers theater scripts today.  We had 3 groups: The Cranky Bear, Chicken Little and Little Red Hen



Thursday:
We read about Jesus walking on water today for Religion.  We talked about keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus like Peter did.  

We wrote our memory verse:

In math we learned about the calendar.  We sang the months of the year song as well as the days of th week song to help us!

Our letter for handwriting was lowercase z.  Check out our all stars
For science, we practiced some of our vocabulary words for our science test next week.  We also colored to show if it is a slow or fast change, if its a landform or inside the Earth.  

In grammar we talked about the pronouns we and us.  We also corrected mistakes in sentences.
We ended with Weekly Reader and Music.  The children read about 

In music we learned about question and answer while singing.  The children each had a chance to answer what their favorite color was.  

Friday:
We had such a fun day celebrating. Check out some of our fun hats!




In math we did Lucky Charm Graphing.  We compared our results as well.  



For writing, we wrote If I Could Meet a Leprechaun.

In phonics we had a contest to see who could make the most words out of ST. PATRICK'S DAY

For science we did a fun experiment! We put skittles in water to see what would happen.





We played Irish Hot Potato, and Where's the Gold.

We had a fun snack with lunch!  Shamrock Shakes!!!

We ended with a game where we had to see who could add up to 17.
