Week of April 17-21

Monday:
We read about The Widow's Mite today in religion.  We talked about giving with our whole heart as it all belongs to God.  We talked about the things God gives us like friends, family, faith, hope, and love.  We also came up with the things we can give to Him like time, talents, praise, prayer, and money.

We wrote our memory verse

In math we did more graphing.  We did problem solving using our graphs.
Our phonics lesson was learning about our special vowel sounds.  We learned the AU and AW.  Both of those together make the /AW/ sound.  We practiced our spelling words and marked them correctly using our phonics skills.

Our story for this week is The Moon.  We listened to our story be read aloud and took it home to read for homework.

In social studies we got in small groups to practice for our Social Studies test.  Then we watched a United Streaming Video about being a good citizen.

We also wrote about what we did for Easter.

We ended our day with our reading mentors coming in to read with us!
Tuesday:

We took turns saying our memory this morning!
For phonics, we worked with more words with the AW and AU special vowel sounds.

In math we did a review for our graphing test tomorrow.
In reading, we learned more about the hard and soft c and g.  We also practiced our vocabulary from our story.

Now that we finished handwriting letters, we are now copying poems.  This helps the children with their spacing and their handwriting skills.

For Social Studies we again got into groups to practice for our test.

We worked with contractions during grammar.  The children are understanding these better!
We ended sharing our writing from yesterday about what we did for Easter.

Wednesday:
Today in Chapel, the first graders shared their faith walk with us.  It was fun to learn about the different Bible Heroes!

We took our math test today on graphing.

We did a graphic organizer about The Moon.  We talked about what we see when we observe the moon and when we visit the moon.  Then we picked whether each sentence talked about the moon or the earth.

We started our pen pal letters after lunch.  Today we wrote about what we did at our Easter Party.

After recess we did name rainbows.  We brainstormed different adjectives to describe ourselves then we wrote our names and words that start with the letters in first names.  We decorated the hallway when these!

Thursday
We talked about prayer today for Religion.  We read about how Jesus teaches us to pray.  We talked about The Lords Prayer as a way to pray.  We talked about not giving up in our prayers and to be diligent in our prayers.  We also talked about how God will give us what we need when we pray.

We finished our pen pal letters today.  We told our pen pals about our groundbreaking next week and how we are building a new school!

Wednesday:

Today in Chapel, Mrs. Devoy's 3rd graders shared The Easter Story from the Bible.  What an amazing story it is!  I love to hear it each and every year!  The children also learned more about their last mission project.  We are helping another school in Missouri.  Each of the teachers picked a color to wear today to remind them of crayons.  Each class got a crayon bank that we will fill up for the next few weeks.  On May 31st, the children each get to wear any color they like to be crayons.  On that day, we will weigh our banks.  The class with the heaviest bank will win jeans days from June 1-7!!

In math we learned about venn diagrams and line plots.  We used hula hoops to help our venn diagram come alive!

We had specials back to back today!  We went right from computers to gym.
