We did a practice test today to prepare the students for tomorrows math test. We measured, did line plots, and shapes.
For reading we read, Merry Christmas Mm and Dad By: Mercer Mayer. First the children predicted what the story would be about based of the cover. Then I read them the story. We went back to look at pictures and use the illustrations to describe what was going on. Then the children took turns summarizing the story. Tomorrow we will read it again and dig deeper into summarizing.
In phonics we talked about the /K/ sound. First we reviewed the /K/ sound at the beginning of words. We drew the cat to remind us that C goes with a, o, and u, and the kite to remind us that K goes with i and e.
Then we talked about the /K/ sound at the end of words. We reviewed that we use CK after short vowels and we learned we use KE after long vowels. I dictated different words and they needed to either use CK or KE at the end. They needed to be able to tell me why they chose each ending.
For Social Studies, the children decorated their "suitcases" to take home their international ornaments. We also made our passports to get us home.
We wrote about what we wanted for Christmas this year in writing!
We ended the day in small groups for reading mentors. Children were asked to bring in Christmas books to share with their friends. I brought in some extras in case students forgot!
JUST IN TIME!! THE CHILDREN FILLED THEIR MARBLE JAR SO THEY GET A MOVIE AND POPCORN DAY TOMORROW!
