Tuesday, December 20th

We celebrated one of friends who is having a birthday over Christmas break today!  God's blessings on your birthday!

We talked about gifts for devotions this morning.  We talked about how the Wise Men brought gifts to Jesus because they loved Him.  We talked about how Jesus was the best gift of all.  We read, The Story of Christmas where it talked about how we give gifts to others just as Jesus was the gift to us.

The students had their math test today.  They did a great job!

We played some phonics games today: Beat the Clock and Slap!  They had fun playing some games!

We did some GoNoodle activities for indoor recess today to get us moving!

We read The Polar Express today during reading!

Our letter today was the lowercase b.  Check out today's "beautiful" all stars!

We started learning 2 new songs today in Choir.  Love Letter, and God's True Shining Love.

The children earned their movie and popcorn, so since we read The Polar Express, now we would watch it so we could compare the book to the movie.

At the end of the day the children received their gifts from their teacher!  Some goodies and a coupon book good for free homework day, sit with the teacher for lunch, 5 minutes of extra recess and pick a friend from 2O to eat lunch with.

Tomorrow: Christmas Dress and Christmas Party

Monday, December 19th

We read Christmas is Here for devotion this morning.  We talked about making sure this Christmas we remember the reason for Christmas, Jesus.  We had some prayer requests, especially for a death in one of our classmates Great Grandpas.

We did a practice test today to prepare the students for tomorrows math test.  We measured, did line plots, and shapes.

For reading we read, Merry Christmas Mm and Dad By: Mercer Mayer.  First the children predicted what the story would be about based of the cover.  Then I read them the story.  We went back to look at pictures and use the illustrations to describe what was going on.  Then the children took turns summarizing the story.  Tomorrow we will read it again and dig deeper into summarizing.

In phonics we talked about the /K/ sound.  First we reviewed the /K/ sound at the beginning of words.  We drew the cat to remind us that C goes with a, o, and u, and the kite to remind us that K goes with i and e.

Then we talked about the /K/ sound at the end of words.  We reviewed that we use CK after short vowels and we learned we use KE after long vowels.  I dictated different words and they needed to either use CK or KE at the end.  They needed to be able to tell me why they chose each ending.

For Social Studies, the children decorated their "suitcases" to take home their international ornaments.  We also made our passports to get us home.

We wrote about what we wanted for Christmas this year in writing!

We ended the day in small groups for reading mentors.  Children were asked to bring in Christmas books to share with their friends.  I brought in some extras in case students forgot!

JUST IN TIME!! THE CHILDREN FILLED THEIR MARBLE JAR SO THEY GET A MOVIE AND POPCORN DAY TOMORROW!

Thursday, December 15th

For our devotion this morning we read the book, "God Gave Us Christmas."  It you haven't read it, it is a wonderful story about Little Cub who begins to wonder who invented Christmas?  It was a great way for the children to learn about Christmas and how much God loves them.

We talked more about our shapes today, especially quadrilaterals, cubes, pentagons, and hexagons.

We finished writing our pen pal letters and will address them to mail them out tomorrow!  The children did a great job writing them.

We learned about prefixes and suffixes today.  We talked about the prefixes: -un, -re, -dis- and the suffixes: -ful and -less.  We had to make words using the base words: like, care, visit, use.

Due to the frigid temperatures outside the children had indoor recess today to stay warm!

Today we had the uppercase letter S for handwriting.  Check out our SENSATIONAL all stars!

We had a few friends share their show and tell today.  We had Elfie, an Angel and a Disney Charm Bracelet!

We played Jeopardy for Social Studies to get us ready for tomorrow's test!  They all did great!

Since I wasn't here I did not share yesterday's ornament: Crowns from Brazil!

We worked on our Ireland ornament today. We should finish them tomorrow!  2 of our friends finished today!
We also made our last ornament from Norway.  Christmas Trees!!

We celebrated a classmates birthday today!  What a blessing it is to celebrate the gift of life God gave us!

We read The Flight of the Wise Men today.  It was a readers theater and the children took turns reading the parts.  We talked about the story of the Wise Men and how they brought gifts to Baby Jesus.  We discussed that is why we give gifts at Christmas time as well!

In math we did more measuring of perimeter.  Then the children had some review of addition and subtraction and comparing numbers.

Today was bagel day!  The children love eating their yummy bagels each month.

Our story from our readers was Time for Kids: Meet Super Croc.  The children were excited to learn about one of God's creatures!

We learned phonetic skill 3 today for phonics.  We learned that when there is no guardian consonant after the vowel it is long, and long vowels say their names.  Some student came up to the board to prove some phonetic 3 words.

Recess was super fun today!  We got to have a snow fight!  How exciting!!

Today's handwriting letter was the uppercase U.  Check out our Unbelievable all stars!

We had a study guide today to help us prepare for our social studies test this Friday.

We traveled to Ireland today for Christmas Around the World.  We started our baubles.  They are foam balls with sequins pinned to them.  They are very impressive but take some time to make.  We will need to finish them on Thursday.

The children received their pen pal letters today!  How exciting it was for them to read the letters.  What a gift it is that the children can write letters to family members.  We also had a pen pal send in candy canes for the class!  The children really enjoyed that treat!
